Special Groups

OPEN TO MEMBERS OF THE BONSAI SOCIETY OF PORTLAND

The Mentorship Group

Open to BSOP members, this group meets monthly, usually on Saturdays, currently renting space in a NE Portland church.  Basic bonsai skills are emphasized in a small hands-on setting.  Mentors and Mentees alike gain skills and understanding of bonsai by working closely with each other in a small group.  See the BSOP newsletter for details.

The Shohin Group

The purpose of the group, Oregon Shohin Kai, is the creation of quality Shohin.  Shohin are small bonsai no taller than 8 inches (some say 11 inches).  The informally structured group meets monthy (except July, August, September, and December).  Most meetings are hands-on, either creating new Shohin or refining old ones.
Contact Arlene S. with your questions.   See your BSOP newsletter The Tree Line for details.

The Heritage Group - NEW

Did you ever wonder what would happen if you got sick and couldn’t take care of your bonsai? What will happen to your collection when you die?  What will your family do?  What can they do?

To solve this problem, BSOP has formed the Heritage Group.  This is a group of non-professional bonsai enthusiasts, under the auspices of the BSOP, who will assist with bonsai in need of care or sale due to an unforeseen emergency, illness or death.  The program is designed to satisfy a variety of needs and desires.  The owner of the collection (or their designated representative) is in total control.  The Heritage Group will provide a range of services, from short term temporary tree care, to assisting with pricing for sale of the collection by the family, to the ultimate solution where the Heritage Group would remove the trees and arrange for their disposition to other BSOP members by auction.

There is no cost for members who join the Heritage Group.  Membership in the Group assures that your bonsai collection will be maintained during your illness or distributed according to your instructions.  In return, you agree to help when other Group members are in need.

Please review the full BSOP Heritage Group Guidelines and  Agreement, available in PDF format.  If you have questions, contact Bob Laws at (360) 574-0166 or email rklaws@comcast.net.
